I have a problem with this controller, during installation when i have the message that the silicon drivers are loading, suddenly another message appears "Disabling IRQ#15" and installation freezes here.

Any idea?

Mobo is an Abit IC7-MAX3

is this FC1 or FC2?

I have a Gigabyte 7NNXP that fails during the hard drive formatting portion of the graphical install. It has a Silicon Image SATA controller and I'm using 1 SATA drive in the machine. Aside from an error formatting hde3, this hard drive was working with Gentoo recently, and I also started a Windows install last night to make sure the drive wasn't defective. So far it's only FC2 that seems to bork on it. Thoughts?

The actual error is:
"An error occurrend trying to format hde3. This problem is serious and the install cannot continue.

Press <Enter> to reboot your system."

OP: My Sil Image 3114 works on FC2 install boot up but you might want to try going through bios and freeing up some IRQs (parallel port, serial etc..).

rth: don't know what to say, maybe bug report?

Will the text install give me more information?

AFAIK, yes.

Is it normal if the installer asks me to boot from /dev/hde2 which is / not /boot?

You mean when undergoing a install from harddrive? Are you using the boot.iso CD? I am confused.

The one SATA drive is 60GB. The partition that it craps out on when formatting is / which is almost 59 gigs after 1 gig swap and 100 meg boot.

Oddly enough the partition that has a "serious problem" seems to be the one that FC2 tries to make the boot partition.

Hmm, I wouldn't bother with a boot partition, not necessary with Grub and not really efficient in any situation (so I have heard) as to why it is bombing out on that, I have no idea.

Unless I'm mistaken I can't get around this with the installer (text or GUI). I think the problem may be when Grub is trying to make a command like root (hd0,0) for example.

It does *not* keep the partition info between reboots even though one partition seems to be formatted by the installer.

My motherboard is legacy free, no serial and no parallel ports and indeed IRQ15 is assigned to the sata controller and no other devices :(

problem solved, how?

installing the boot disk on on normal ide, and 2 sata drives on intel sata :(

Did you ever manage to get this fixed other than booting of an IDE drive?

I have an Abit IC7 Max3 and the FC4 install works, I just can't get past first boot:
