I did an update of yum. Then tried to update php using yum update php.
See error below.

I believe the error is the URLs in the .repo files in etc/yum.repos.d There are
I don't believe they point to the right place, but don't know where to find the actual links.

These are the files I have:
fedora-core.repo
fedora-updates-newkey.repo
fedora-updates-testing.repo
fedora-updates.repo.rpmnew
fedora.repo.rpmnew
fedora-rawhide.repo
fedora-updates-testing-newkey.repo
fedora-updates.repo
fedora.repo

*** Is it possible to get a set of those files from someone to compare? I'm using Fedora 9. **** Thanks for any pointers.

Here is my error message:

root@ip-72-167-254-63 [/etc/yum.repos.d]# yum update php

i take it that this is ONLY a list of what is in the folder

These are the files I have:
fedora-core.repo
fedora-updates-newkey.repo
fedora-updates-testing.repo
fedora-updates.repo.rpmnew
fedora.repo.rpmnew
fedora-rawhide.repo
fedora-updates-testing-newkey.repo
fedora-updates.repo
fedora.repo

and NOT the output of

yum repolist

post that output so we know what repos are in fact turned on .

also

Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading "priorities" plugin

these two plugins are KNOWN to have problems from time to time
try this

yum --noplugins update php

after YOU TURN OFF " fedora-debuginfo "
you can do this temporally by using this

yum --noplugins --disablerepo=fedora-debuginfo update php

also READ

yum --help
-- and --
man yum

Thank you John. I followed your directions. Here's the output of yum repolist:

root@ip-72-167-254-63 [~]# yum repolist
Loading "fastestmirror" plugin
Loading "priorities" plugin
Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration
repo id repo name status
base Fedora Core 9 - i386 - Base enabled
fedora-debuginfo Fedora 9 - i386 - Debug enabled
updates-newkey Fedora 9 - i386 - Updates Newkey enabled
updates-released Fedora Core 9 - i386 - Base enabled

The results of yum --noplugins update php:

root@ip-72-167-254-63 [~]# yum --noplugins update php
Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration
updates-newkey 100% |=========================| 2.3 kB 00:00
primary.sqlite.bz2 100% |=========================| 3.2 MB 00:03
fedora-debuginfo 100% |=========================| 1.9 kB 00:00
primary.sqlite.bz2 100% |=========================| 1.3 MB 00:04

And the results of disabling fedora debug:

root@ip-72-167-254-63 [~]# yum --noplugins --disablerepo=fedora-debuginfo update php
Repository base is listed more than once in the configuration
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/fedora-core-9 error was

Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again

Here's what's in my fedora-core.repo file:

name=Fedora Core $releasever - $basearch - Base
baseurl=http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/$releasever/$basearch/os/
mirrorlist=http://fedora.redhat.com/download/mirrors/fedora-core-$releasever
failovermethod=priority
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedor

I believe the URLs are incorrect, but don't know where to find the right ones.

Here's what's in my fedora-core.repo file:
where the heck did you get that repo file from

it looks like the file from fedora 4 or 5
install
http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/9/Everything/i386/os/repoview/fedora-release.html
and delete/remove that mangled thing first.
also you might want to get ride of ALL/everything that is installed in that folder
there is NO repo called "updates-released Fedora Core 9 " .The " core " has not been used in a very long time

Thank you. That was a big help.
