View Full Version : Why sda and not hda?

I am running Fedora 8. I've noticed that my standard, old, PATA hard drive is assigned a device name of sda instead of, as I would have expected, hda. This isn't really a problem, but I am wondering why?

Hi rcdawson.

That started several kernels ago. Apparently SATA drivers were better than IDE ones, so they decided to unite them under one single set of drivers.

Thanks.
Joe.

Here's the "official" Fedora Project page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/FeatureLibataForPata
