Hi all, long time reader first time poster :D

I am currently a n00b at Fedora, and I am going through a tutorial. Its pretty good but I am having problems with mpg123. Its says that it can play mpegs, well i did a locate for it and all I have is :


Now I know that the .gz file is just an inforamtion file on how to use mpg123, but where is the actual file for mpg123??

yeah I did, it looked like the info (man page) for mpg123

open the terminal and issue this command:
tar xzvf whatever.tar.gz

NOTE: whatever = your package's name

What you have is the man page.

What you're looking for is some .o file, probably libmpeg123.o. I'm not sure if there is a package for this. You should find plenty of mpeg packages (http://www.fedoratracker.org/tracker.py?mode=pkgSearchCommit&package.name_regex=1&package.name=mpeg&repo.version=2&package.arch=!src&repo.description=!unstable%20!bleeding%20!testing&actionID=58100&iteration=3). I would try smpeg. You won't get this from the Fedora CDs due to licensing issues (I think).
