hi
Recently I experience weird freezing on the gnome GUI (gnome panel, nautilus etc etc). The rest of the applications work fine though even when the gnome WM frooze.

This is very annoying because even though I do a CTRL-ALT-Backspace and relogin, the gnome gui won't load at all... I had to do a restart in order to get my gnome back..

I checked CPU usage.. all normal.. less than 10% usage total up..

Try KDE for the next 3 hours and see if it hangs. Just to know if you are having hardware failure somewhere, overheat, etc.

In the past, I use to rename .gnome & .gnome2 to another name while logged in as root. Then relogin as the regular user, Gnome may work again.

You are not deleting them, just move them to different named folders and then you can slowly move back your configuration files one by one, thereby isolating what exactly caused the issue.
