I've tried playing an encrypted dvd with xine and mplayer, but neither of them have worked. So I was wondering, to what lengths does one have to go through to play encrypted dvds on Fedora 9? Encrypted dvds such as Lord of the Rings.

install libdvdcss and it should allow you to play them back

The link that your provided did not help. Although, I couldn't install 'libdvdplay'.

This link helped me a lot back in the days of FC3 I think (the author has a version of the link for every fedora released). Here's the link for Fedora 9:

Enjoy!

I can say, I have used DangerMouses "How-To"s in the past and they are very thorough.

I tried DangerMouse's 'How To's and the results are as follows. Xine still cannot play the DVD. It outputs the error: "The source seems encrypted, and can't be read. Your DVD is probably crypted. According to your country laws, you can or can't install/use libdvdcss to be able to read this disc, which you bought. (Media stream scrambled/encrypted)". MPlayer will play the audio perfectly, however, there is no video playback. VLC will play the audio but it is slow and jerky, while there is still no video output. I also tried LinDVD which has audio and video playback but the colour is off because reds look like blues. Does anyone have anymore suggestions?

I was able to get it working with the codecs specified by DangerMouse and LinDVD. Thank you very much for your help.
