I just bought a laptop, and I am now trying to set up Twinview in a way that will allow me to have dual monitors when I dock my laptop, but go back to normal when it is not connected to my external monitor. The problem I am running into is that when I undock the laptop and restart X, any icons that were on the second monitor remain off the laptops screen so I can't see them, and the menu bar at the top of the screen is not visible, as it is above the top of the screen.

I guess what I am trying to do is find a way to configure the xorg.conf file to recognize when the external monitor is not connected and disable Twinview. Is there any way to do this?

My laptop's monitor is 1280X800 and my external monitor is 1440X900.

Here is my current xorg.conf file:

Hi there,

if you use the kmod-nvidia from the livna repository than it is very easy to configure as you have
a commandlinetool nvidia-settings which starts a graphical gui where you can set twinview.

Look here for livna repository yum and you will succeed.
