I did a search and found other issues with the HP 1018, but none of those threads offered a solution to my issue.

When I attached the HP1018 by USB on the next boot, Fedora 8 found the printer, installed the printer, and I thought it was ready to go. It would not print a test page or any document. At that time it would throw an error dialog saying that it must not be connected, but I had not touched the USB cable from boot up.

While searching the forums I thought I would try the foo2jzs drivers (http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com) because they seemed to be recommended for this printer. I followed the install instructions on their website, and everything went well. I set up a "new printer" using those drivers, but still nothing prints.

Here are the error logs that were noted when I tried to print the last time:

Any ideas what is wrong that would cause Fedora 8 to fail in connecting to hpssd socket 2207?

Thanks for any help that can be offered. It would be really nice to be able to print on my main work computer :-)

BUMP

Hoping that someone can help with this one. I would like to use Fedora 8 as my desktop, but not being able to print to an HP printer is a no go. Printer and CUPS experts appreciated :-)

I hate it when this is the answer, because I never understand why it works.

However, the HP 1018 is working fine now after a reboot. I hope this continues. I still have no idea why it is working now, and not before, because I had restarted CUPS before I installed the printer with the foo2zjs driver.
