Installed Fedora version 8. While using it shuts down by itself. What I observed just before
shutting down, the fans revs up and the pc goes down.

Relevant information
-------------------------

kernel 2.6.23.1-42.fc8

Also, I tried as suggested to someone else to add

acip=force in /boot/grup/menu.lst

acipd is also running

Please help.

I had the same problem with a MacBook Pro, and was a apple fault. The corrected the problem releasing a new firmware revision.

What machine / hardware you have?. That is a relevant information.

Dell Latitude model # D820

Intel CPU T2600 running @ 2.16GHz

you're sure it's not overheating? laptops shut themselves down if they get to hot which leaves either bios firmware or hardware as the causes of this i would think

The machine is dual partitioned and is stable in XP environment. I am cognizant about thermal issue
though I can't say what temperature it reaches before it shuts down. Fan revving up was just my observation, as I hear it. The fan is hardly active in XP mode.

I think you can install lm-sensors package to watch about cpu temperature using the command:

sensors

Maybe there are some informational messages in the file /var/log/messages. I suggest you check it.
