I was doing a search and noticed a thread along the lines of why are you
still using windows. some of the responders had not found an
alternative to dvdshrink.

I have been using k9copy on fc6 and fc8 (havent tried fc9 yet so not sure about that)

so far it has been reasonably stable, generally I get out of the application after
creating an iso file. then burn the dvd with growisofs

# growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=1 -Z /dev/sr0=filename.iso

you can select titles and chapters and has a graphical display for how much
compression will be applied. I do get some artifacts at higher levels of
compression but I assume that is normal and acceptable to me as the
dual layer blanks are not cheap.

good luck

If you do a forum search, you'll find I had a thread recently with a link to all the current rippers for Gnome (and K9Copy)
