View Full Version : pm-suspend/wake on lan/battery power

I have a Dell XPS laptop running Fedora core 6 on which I am entering suspend and waking up (via wake on lan) regularly over a network. For entering suspend mode I use ssh and invoke pm-suspend and for waking up I send a "magic packet" via a tool I have created.

This runs fine until I enter the situation when AC power is not available to the machine (at which point I assume it begins using battery backup). For example, if I enter suspend mode using pm-suspend and at some point ac power is removed, the NIC becomes inactive and even when ac power is restored, the nic will remain inactive. By inactive I mean the led indicator for that NIC is off on my network switch and the machine will no longer respond to "magic packets"

I have spoken with a few people regarding this and they tell me to "change my acpi settings." If this is the correct response, I need a bit more direction.

My network card is set through fedora to process wake on lan.

#/sbin/ethtool eth0
Supports Wake-on: g
Wake-on: g

Help appreciated
