hmm, maybe try using baseurl instead of the mirrorlist?

It seems that some mirrors block you. The first mirror blocks you and then repomd.xml gets damaged after that maybe. So if the first one doesn't block, then it works.

Internet search led to this article (http://www.networkcomputing.com/showitem.jhtml?articleID=17700138) and this block list (http://www.8e6.com/r3000help/files/1system_proxy_block.html).

Are you using some kind of (web based) proxy?

I am not into it. Just thoughts...

We are but were not.....
there is a machine 8e6 R300 which is being used to filter traffic to cut down on bandwidth usage that is none related ;) from what I was told.

So it is your understanding that this box is blocking/preventing yum from getting updates?

It could as yum says

... [Errno 4] IOError: [Errno ftp error] ftp: Violation, Violation, Violation, action blocked by R3000
...

Ok thanks..

Somethings are so obvious they are missed LOL

Making mirror list with links to mirrors that are not blocked is one solution then. Try searching the forums or Google how to make your own mirror list to yum.

You can try adding there mirrors that didn't get the block message.

Depending on how the 8e6 is configured. From what I read there are several ways to configure the box....Will just need to compose a letter to the manager of the box so that it will be "unblocked" lol

that is exactly what it was. 8e6 R3000 was preventing the FTP actions....thanks!!!
