It's the FATAL: Dump file error: Unable to open dump file /var/log/kismet/Kismet-Jun-21-2008-1.dump (Permission denied) bit I am having trouble with. After trying every voodoo cure that google has thrown at me I think I need help.

Thanks for any suggestions.

as to the Permission denied part , I take it you have tried opening it as root

su -
( your password when asked )
gedit /var/log/kismet/Kismet-Jun-21-2008-1.dump
--- or if you like nano , vi----
nano /var/log/kismet/Kismet-Jun-21-2008-1.dump
vi /var/log/kismet/Kismet-Jun-21-2008-1.dump

also how did you install Kismet

yum install Kismet
or from there site
from the documentation
http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml

* Download Kismet from http://www.kismetwireless.net/download.shtml
* Run ``./configure''.

Aye I have tried all of those. The strange thing is gedit /var/log/kismet/Kismet-Jun-21-2008-1.dump doesen't exist.

Also I was lazy and installed it through the GUI package manager just for ease of use.

Hi
if i remember correctly (been a while) just go to the folder /var/log/kismet/ right click>properties and make it writeable

about the only thing i can think of is change the folder permissions to writable
for /etc/kismet and /var/log/kismet
and i take it you have gone through
http://www.kismetwireless.net/documentation.shtml
and edited /usr/etc/kismet.conf ( from the above doc. )
just guessing but clamav needs a user called clamav created
maybe kismet dose too ?

I have done that yes. I will try out the writable thing (but I think it may already be) when I get home.

Anyway on a side note thanks for the responses I have been getting. :D
