/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound restart (http://ccrma-mail.stanford.edu/pipermail/planetccrma/2004-May/005014.html)

This does not work on Fedora Core 2, alsasound is simply not present in that directory, I can only find alsactl which only lets me store and restore settings.

that's strange

[ilja@josephine omert]$ locate alsa | grep /etc/
/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsasound
/etc/makedev.d/alsa

Alsa is implemented as a kernel module, not a service, in FC2. That's one of the reasons why it was such a big change. I entered exactly the same command as ilja and got:

$ locate alsa | grep /etc
/etc/makedev.d/alsa

For sure rebooting would restart everything but that's no fun, it resets your uptime.
