Hello,

My name is Gerry, and I am VERY NEW to linux.

I have a program that locks up on a semi-regular basis.
The developer is working on the issue.

Here is my question:

Is there a way to have a program shut down, wait 1 minute, and then restart?

I forgot to mention. I would like this to occure on regular basis.

I realize this should only be used as a temp. measure, but is it possible.

Thanks.

You need to write a little program/script, but it's possible to do it. You can use C or, simply, a bash script.

Btw, I haven't really understand what you would say by "I would like this to occure on regular basis."

cron & kill will provide you with what you need, kill can send a signal, you can either have your program listen to that signal, and begin a shutdown proceedure, or just let it shutdown the hard way.
Cron will take care of the timing by calling your script.

Thanks, I'll check out Cron and see where it gets me.

As far as having it timed on a regular basis, I want to be able to have it reset every X amount of hours.
