View Full Version : F9 64 can't add new software, package manager says offline

I've just replace F9 X86 on this machine with F9_64, it's an AMD FX51 box. The X86 system worked perfectly. Now I am having some network issues with the new install. Could it be because I'm using a static IP address?

The panel icon tells me that networking is disabled. Evolution always starts in offline mode, as does Firefox. But networking is working and I can access the Samba shares I have mounted via fstab.

The main problem is that I can't install any additional applications because the package installer won't let me add them. It tells me that it can't install because there is no Internet connection available. But I can see Firefox open in another window. I've tried deleting the (Nvidia) network hardware setup and reconfiguring it. There's no change. This is going to be a server box on my home network so I need a fixed address. I could RTFM for my router and do things with its DHCP server, but I'd rather fix the problem on this box if I can.

What should I try next?

Thanks, that's what I needed. I had both network and network-manager running which may have confused it. Either that or the fact that I had two machines on the network with the same address!

I have the same issue. I read through the referenced document, but attempts to start the network fail with the following error message:

[asquared@localhost ~]$ sudo /etc/init.d/network start
[sudo] password for asquared:
Bringing up loopback interface: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface eth0:
Determining IP information for eth0...Can't create /var/run/dhclient-eth0.pid: Permission denied
cp: cannot remove `/etc/resolv.conf.predhclient.eth0': Permission denied
done.
[ OK ]

So I am still unable to install Samba - and I've been trying since 2005!

Where should I be reading now to try to understand the causes of the error messages and how they should be solved?
