View Full Version : A Note about Installing Windows Over a Linux Drive

I'm not talking about dual booting - just if you ever have a linux drive that for some insane reason you want to put windows xp on....

When I tried to boot the XP install cd, it would just hang at a black screen before it even got to the setup. I used a live cd to delete the linux partitions and then windows setup loaded fine.

Seems pretty dumb that they just let it hang instead of saying "You have non windows partitions"...

Just in case anyone else runs into this!

I've seen this too. Even with after opening free space, or creating an empty FAT32 partition, I could not get the CD to boot on my Fedora 8 machine.

So I loaded up VMware, and XP lives there now :-D
