View Full Version : Finally Got X to Start, Now I Can't Stop It

I just installed F9. Initial behavior of X was load, crash, repeat about 10 times. I ran Xorg -configure and moved its config file. X loaded, but now it won't stop. The only way I can get rid of X is going into runlevel 1. X runs even in 3. Any ideas on how to fix this?

try to play with /etc/inittab

in this line:

id:5:initdefault:
set it to 3 to start the system in the runlevel 3

also, check this line:

# Run xdm in runlevel 5
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

first of all it must be set to runlevel 5, also, if you would like the X server not to come back after it is killed you might like to replace "respawn" with "once"
