Hey all-

Doing a build for a friend, we've got the live CD image on a USB key and we've booted into run-level 3 to go into text-only mode. When we tried to do a graphical boot it crashed.

We're running a Q6600, nV 8800 GT, 4GB RAM (to be upgraded later). Basically we want to get FC9 installed and running, then we're going to optimize (RAID'ing the rest of the HDD's, adding RAM, dual-boot later).

Do we need to be running from the install DVD's or is there a way to configure our display from the Live CD on the USB and start the installation? I'm currently downloading the install DVD's to mount later.

Also, how exactly are we going to go about installing the driver? I assume we're going to need to add livna and then get the latest drivers from there following instructions here:

You won't be able to install the accelerated nvidia driver in F9 without downgrading the xorg server for now.

To proceed with vesa mode, you need to create a minimal /etc/X11/xorg.conf from text mode, something like this should work:

Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "Default Layout"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "gb"
EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Videocard0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
EndSubSection
EndSection

(you may need to change XkbLayout to "us" or whatever is appropriate)

The nv driver may work as well as vesa.
