View Full Version : Fedora 9 Problems after upgrade from Fecora 8

18th May 2008, 09:27 PM
after upgrading from Fedora 8 to fedora 9, I'm not able to start the user at runlevel 5.

I'm running a x86-64 installation on a dual core laptop (Travelmate 6292)

If I boot up to runlevel 3, it works, but I see a [FAILED] result for the HAL daemon
If I try to start the HAL daemon by running

/usr/sbin/hald --daemon=yes --verbose=yes
I don't see any error (hal 0.5.11rc2; Will daeminize; Becoming a daemon) and I see that the HAL daemon is then running.

Anyway, when I try to login at runlevel 5, both by leaving the default boot to runlevel 5 or by changing runlevel after starting hal daemon, it fails:

I get the dialog window for login on the gnome background
When I select user and type password, the screen becomes black for while (like restarting)
It shows again the login dialog window: no way to get out from there

Can someone help me please?

check the xlog file. And post the /var/log/Xorg.o.log file.

Thank you sri-ram1982

I did a check of the x configuration files and they didn't look very appropriate for the laptop.

Unfortunately, I had to travel last week abroad and I made a new install from scratch (as suggested by many posts).

Everything is working now, but I didn't keep the old log files...
