Greetings -

I have a number of machines, all running FC7 or FC8. I recently decided to have a look at FC9, so took the least important of my machines, reformatted / (left /home intact), and did the clean install. Seemed to go fine.

However, once I fired up FC9, ran into a slew of issues - some minor, some less so. I'll start with a minor one - where the heck is the menu item to change attributes of the login screen? On all my other Fedora boxes, its System | Administration | Login Screen. But, on the Fedora 9 box, no such menu item (come to think of it - several of other menu items I normally find on System | Administration are missing, but I'll start with the Login Screen item.

Oh, and before someone asks, logged in to default gnome desktop as root.

I'm stumped/puzzled. Suggestions? Pointers to the obvious?

There's a new GDM version and there's no configuration utility (yet).

Does anybody know if there is a way to get the new GDM to automatically log somebody into the computer when it is turned on?

Nevermind I just figured it out....
http://live.gnome.org/GDM/2.22/Configuration

In /etc/gdm/custom.conf add this:[daemon]
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=benjithegreat (change this to your username)
TimedLoginDelay=0

By the way, there's no need to reply with the security implications of this. I'm fine with it.

Thanks. So it seems we're stuck with it - its twitchy, blingy for the sake of blingy, and ugly (IMO). I suppose it isn't a huge deal, but was it really necessary to cripple a perfectly function GDM just for a few points on the eye-candy scoreboard.

I have a strong suspicion there will be lots of complaints about the GDM. Here's mine...

Thanks for the link (and for the outdated rpm), I successfully used method two to have the nice GDM in my Fedora 9. A problem less to deal with... :D
