Hello there everyone,
long time linux user, first time fedora user here :)

I was wondering if fedora has some useful meta packages to automatically install restricted codecs, drivers etc...
In ubuntu 8.04 once you install "ubuntu-restricted-extras" package it installs, jre, codecs, flash, dvd support and graphics card drivers etc... Are there any similar packages?

I can hunt down required packages to setup these in wikis, forums etc. but I wanted to ask here first to find out if there is an easy way.

BTW, I saw the "Set up script" in howto section but, I would like to use official packages and also it doesn't have all the packages I need

thanks very much

hi,

fedora itself has no (meta) packages for any of the things you mention. the livna repository might help a lot, many of the things you seek are in there.

http://www.linuxcompatible.org/rpm.livna.org_repositories_for_Fedora_9_Sulphur_no w_available_s111917.html

but there is no meta-package like in ubuntu nor is it as complete. A lot of manual work is still required and no 3D drivers for nvidia/ati are available .... yet.

this guide helps a lot and is still very valid for F9 and will probably be updated soon:

http://www.howtoforge.com/installation-guide-fedora8-desktop

and will help answer 99% of your requests here.
