View Full Version : unable to login : POWER FAILURE

22nd April 2008, 07:05 PM
When I try to login (graphical or text mode) I get an error message POWER FAILURE (yes, in capital letters) and login does not succeed. I don't see any other error but I get back to login prompt. There was indeed power failure earlier in the day but the ups daemon smartly hibernated the machine when UPS ran out of juice. But now I cannot start a new login now.

root login succeeds but it also shows POWER FAILURE before I get my prompt. The session that was running when system was hibernated is running fine. I am posting this from there. But new logins are failing. I am afraid to reboot as I might be locked out.

When I do

tail -n 0 -f /var/log/secure

and then try to login on text prompt, I get the following

Apr 22 23:29:07 localhost login: Authentication failure

I promise that I entered the correct username and password.
Any ideas?

Rebooting fixed the issue. Fedora tests the courage of its users sometimes. Glad I was equal to the challenge.
