View Full Version : Fedora 8 Hangs at Sign-In Screen

I recently installed a LAMP server using Fedora 8. After installing Postfix (last item on my hitlist) I rebooted the server and now it hangs just after all the services finish loading where the sign-in screen would regularily appear (all services initalize normally).

By the time it hangs, the x-windows has initalized, but the sign-in screen just doesn't show up. The mouse cursor stays animated and allows you to move it off the screen, and CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE just makes the screen go black before hanging at the same point...

I have no idea what could be wrong. I AM able to SSH into the box remotely and everything works via command-line.

This is the first time I've decided to use a GUI on a server-machine... I guess this is WHY most people don't use GUI's on a server machine... buggy things. I'd rather not have to re-install because of some heinous little bug... anyone have any ideas?
