Is it possible to create a new lvm2 volume with 2 existing hardrives without loosing data?

I have 3 disks in my machine: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, and /dev/sdc.

sdb and sdc are used for my network fileserver. I would like to make a new lvm2 volume called fileserver and add both of those drives to it. Is this possible without loosing data from those drives?

Yes, if you back it up. Just as when creating partitions, you need unused disk space to create LVM physical volumes. You could move all the data to the one hard drive that isn't being touched if you have enough space on it. Otherwise, grab some backup media and get crackin.

can't do that. The drives are 500GB and they both are about 80% full. Thanks.
