I don't know, whether it is the same. To have the russian keyboard and so to write Russian in Fedora you have to add a keyboardlayoutswitcher (I'm not sur about the name) and then add there the Keyboard-Layout you want to use. (e.g. japanese) If there is more than one, then try all of them and find out the best.

But it is possible, that for japanese, as an asian language it is much more difficult.

that don't work, japanese language is so much difficult than japanese.
i think i have to use something like canda server, but i don't know how to use it under fedrora.
If i can't find something i have to install a japanese version of fedora, that will be hard ^^

This is for RH9, but might work on Fedora http://linuxquestions.org/questions/archive/8/2003/12/4/128194

SCIM (http://freedesktop.org/~suzhe/) works nicely for Chinese, it should for Japanese too...

FC2 has IIIMF ( server IIIM )...if you login through gnome by setting Japanese langauge...........you just need to open gedit, press Ctrl+Space and there you go...

you can set iiimf as default using im-switch...check help for im-switch

better upgrade to FC2, In gnome there is a real good funtionality now that we allow you to chnage the input methods on the fly...

you dont need to install japanese fedora. just few packages that enable you to input japanese
