It happened the same thing to me a long time ago !!! Finally, I found another one that happened the same thing !!!
I could not find a solution and I had to reinstall Fedora. :(
But I found the problem, actually, it was when I upgraded my XFree86 packages whith all other upgrades available via up2date.
I reinstalled Fedora, and used up2date to update the kernel version first, then I reboot.
Then, I updated my XFree86 packages and reboot.
Finally, I continue updating my hole system.
This is the solution I found and it never happened to me any more.
I know it's strange but I really don't have another explanation for this.
Greetings

Did you need to re-install from CD? A friend of mine set it up fro me and he did not bring me to the current verision and I paid him for his help!! Oh well.

I have a MAC I could download the install disks onto but writting the files correctly is something I dont know how to do.

Do any novice install instructions exist?

Thanks for your help!!
