View Full Version : System is slow/hangs during Gnome startup - FC8

This might actually be a Gnome issue, but I thought I'd post it here first since I don't recall having the issue in FC7.

When Gnome is starting up, several programs like the gnome-panel launch immediately, then there is a long pause with no hard drive activity. After a minute or two, the hard drive light comes on again and Compiz Fusion, Avant Window Manager, and Screenlets start. There are several other programs that launch "invisibly" like Beagle so I can't pin the delay on Compiz or AWM.

Is there a way to watch as programs are being launched so I can see which one is hanging? Or a detailed log that shows when each program is launched?

The only other thing I can think of is to move programs one by one to the end of the startup list until the delay moves.
