View Full Version : F8 freezes at boot creating root device/trying to resume

Hello,
Performed a minimal Fedora8 install by creating default layout in available free space (so / and swap are logical volumes, /boot is regular).
During boot at initrd stage it freezes at "Trying to resume..." unless I pass noresume boot parameter in grub, and freezes at "Creating root device" otherwise (which is basically the next step in nash script after resume).
Any idea what the problem is, and how to fix it?

You don't happen to have any type 165 (FreeBSD or PC-BSD) partitions on that disk, do you? A bug has been filed for what sounds like your problem.

Well, you must have a crystal ball or sth !
Yes, I do have a FreeBSD partition, which I ditched (it was experimental anyway), and F8 boots up OK now. :)

I was almost convinced it was pata-via drivers (VT8237) since there's also Gentoo on this box driving over ide-disk and works without a fuss.
It must be some nash weirdness... anyway, thanks a lot.
