I have 2 hard drives, 1 with Windows XP & the other with Fedora 7. Well I proceeded to install a fresh copy of Fedora 8 on the 2nd hard drive and all went well and it rebooted and im at a black screen and it gives and option of Windows XP or Fedora (2.6 .23.1-42.fc8) and if i select the fc8 I get this

root (hd0, 0)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.23.1-42.fc8 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quit

Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition

Press any key to continue.........

And if I select Windows XP I get this:

rootnoverify (hd1, 0)
chainloader +1

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

Press any key to continue......

Can someone help me fix my mess? Thank you in advance :D

Probably your disk numbering got reversed. Try editing the grub entry and changing hd0,0 to hd1,0.

Dual boot go for custom partitions no LVM. Plz.

Reinstall system swap=RAMx2X,
/ 20 GB +

Partition type 0x7 being NTFS, I'm betting that's what happened. This kept happening to me too when I had to reinstall Windows (and then grub) a couple times, a while ago.

Well what I did was get rid of Windows XP completely and just installed Fedora, But I did do a default install, is this a bad thing?

Is thier a console command to see how my default setup was installed, thank you in advance.
