hi,

I am puzzled that my fedora 6 is stalled after start wheh it says
"Enabling local file system quotas OK"

a similar situation like this thread http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-164290.html

Ctrl alt backspace and got this:
etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit: line821: 1623 segmentation fault rm -f $afile/*

Actually it goes dead when it says
"show details setting hostname"
and "show detailed" does not work

I have done nothing special and this is the situation I met since yesterday
I have 3 cores on this computer, but now no one can boot, the same problem.

Thanks for help in advance

There seems to be another similar thread here (http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=167191).

Probably a hard disk/other hardware failure? Corrupted filesystem?

In any case, IMO, there shouldn't be a segmentation fault even if the filesystem is corrupted, as segfaults usually indicate a bug in the program....

I'm sorry that I can't help you more with this.

After many times reboot, it says to check disk.
Then 'fsck' to repair, it works.
But still puzzled with this problem.

Umm... I don't quite follow. Did the problem go away? If so, good. If not, bad.

As to what caused the problem, my bets are still on filesystem corruption. Also, as I said, the error message seems to indicate that the command rm is segfaulting (probably because of the filesystem corruption) In my opinion, this shouldn't happen.
