View Full Version : converting FLAC~>MP3: On the fly?

howdy guys,

I've been saving all of my audio as flac as of late, but my car and Sansa C240 require MP3.

Anyone know of an app that makes the process a little quicker for me? Currently, I convert it to a new folder, copy the folder over then delete it.

I thought maybe something would utilize a drag & drop system with the ability to dictate the format of the new folder.

I may not understand the question but is this what you are after.

You can set Amarok to automatically convert formats when transferring to media devices. That sounds like what you're after.
It'll also use the file's tags to save to your chosen directory & file structure on the target device.

Only thing is if you're a Gnome purist, it might grate a liitle using a KDE app.

Hi there guys and thanks very much for the reply,

Vinbob's solution would be ideal since I already use Amarok, unfortunately, if Amarok detects anything(including my camera), it immediately crashes, bringing up an an incredibly friendly email to shoot to the developers. I would initially think that it was something having to do with a hardware incompatibility, but it spans three Fedora releases, two computers and 2 media devices. I don't think anything is common between the different installations.

How about SoundConverter it can convert OGG Vorbis, mp3, flac and wav. You could pick the directory where you have the flac files and then convert/save them to a directory of your choice.
