View Full Version : QEMU: cant boot to windows xp

hi guy.... im new with this linux enviroment it has been 2 month since im using fc6...

for now i already install qemu but when i try to load it will give this error msg
"Boot from Hard Disk 0 failed FATAL: Not a bootable disk"

do anyone know how to overcome this...

fyi my file is winxpsp2.iso and i make a boot img
qemu-img winxpsp2.img 3G

and run qemu winxpsp2.img...after that it give me that error msg...

Try Vmware ,virtualbox

quemu needs special capabilities from your processor to handle virtualisation, give vmware a try, works awesome here.

Wrong. QEMU doesn't need any special CPU "capabilities" (I'm using it on an old Sempron).

@irbadguyz:
Try doing it like this:
- Delete that old image
- Create an empty image (3GB is a bit small):

qemu-img create -f qcow2 winxpsp2.img 5G
- Move the XP CD image to the same directory where your new image is
- Run qemu like this:

qemu winxpsp2.img -cdrom winxpsp2.iso -boot d

If it still gives you that message then your CD image isn't bootable.
