On a fresh install of Fedora Core 7 I can't get dvd's to play smoothly. Everything is good for the first minute or so then the hdd activity light starts blinking as well as the dvd activity light, then playback becomes very choppy; once that happens the mouse also starts skipping around on the screen and they keyboard seems to be lagging a bit aswell. I've tried vlc, mplayer and xine; all with the same results.

These are some of the errors that appear once the playback becomres choppy.

My xorg.conf

Wasn't sure what else to include. I also have Debian and Ubuntu installed on the same machine and dvd's play just fine with them.

Not sure if this is of any use or not.

[root@lulz mike]# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/sda1

/dev/sda1:
Timing cached reads: 1654 MB in 2.00 seconds = 827.13 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 134 MB in 3.02 seconds = 44.34 MB/sec
[root@lulz mike]#

[root@lulz mike]# /sbin/hdparm -tT /dev/scd1

/dev/scd1:
read() failed: Input/output error
Timing buffered disk reads: read() failed: Input/output error
[root@lulz mike]#

same output from scd0
