I have only recently installed Fedora 7 on my laptop and I have been trying to get everything set up.
I tried to install flash but wasn't able to install it properly.
But now when ever I go to try and install anything using the yum command it comes up with the following

[root@SATAL-LAPTOP Satal]# yum -y install bcm43xx-fwcutter
http://linuxdownload.adobe.com/linux/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404: Date: Sat, 08 Sep 2007 16:58:09 GMT
Server: Apache
Transfer-Encoding: chunked
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: %s. Please verify its path and try again

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if they have how have they fixed it as obviously this is rather annoying when I am trying to set this laptop up for use before I go to uni.

Thanks for any help in advance

I have run into similar problems before.

First check the Internet connection and make sure it works correctly.

Try becoming root and run
# yum clean packages headers metadata dbcache all

Then cd to /var/cache/yum and remove everything in the directory

this is a brute-force way but it worked for me. However I guess that might be unsafe so back up the /var/cache/yum files in case of failure. A side effect is the next yum update will cost more time.

*Disclaimer* Think before you try! This only worked for ME. ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY!

Turn off adobe-linux, you don't need it for dealing with the bcm43xx package you want:

yum --disablerepo=adobe-linux install bcm43xx-fwcutter

Note, the "adobe-linux" label might be different on your machine, run

yum repolist all

and use the exact name of the adobe repository as that output lists in the left
column for the --disablerepo= argument above.

yum repolist all
repo id repo name status
adobe-linux Adobe Systems Incorporated disabled
fedora Fedora 7 - i386 enabled
fedora-debuginfo Fedora 7 - i386 - Debug disabled
fedora-source Fedora 7 - Source disabled
livna Livna for Fedora Core 7 - i386 - Base disabled
livna-debuginfo Livna for Fedora Core 7 - i386 - Debug disabled
livna-source Livna for Fedora Core 7 - i386 - Source disabled
macromedia Macromedia for i386 Linux disabled
updates Fedora 7 - i386 - Updates enabled
updates-debuginfo Fedora 7 - i386 - Updates - Debug disabled
updates-source Fedora 7 - Updates Source disabled

I'd also turn off the enable flag in the file itself, since adobe-linux is a repository
you really only want to deal with when you really have to (it's a locked down
repository, you can't see into it with a web browser and so it's harder to find
and fix problems and it's frequently broken). As you see in my example
yum repolist output, I have mine defaulted off.

gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/adobe-linux.repo (or whatever similar it's called, I use i386 only)

edit

enabled=1
to
enabled=0

Let me guess, it's working now? I just tried those URLs and they seem to work.
Sometimes these yum servers go down for a while, just try again sometime
later.
