I'm new to linux and after battling with ubuntu i'm giving fedora 7 64_bit a shot.

This is my system http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8397745&st=a205+s4747&type=product&id=1179877029693

Are there any known compatability issues w/ my system (i.e. the ati x1200)?

Also which is the best general linux forum (i.e. linuxquestions.org)?

The ati card is supported either with "vesa" generic or propietary linux drive that you can install from livna repository.

The web cam, I don't know because there are no specifications to know. You can use v4l2-tool to see if there are some compatible drivers.

The atheros chip can work with madwifi or using ndiswrapper, don't know because incomplete spec, but works for sure. More difficult if you need to use ndiswrapper.

The rest of the hardware appear to be fine to me. No problems.
If you are new to Linus, I suggest you install Fedora 7 with 32 bit option. Less problem and same performance I think.

Whatever you install, is better than Vista Home Edition or whatever edition :).

Thank you. I'm going to install 64_bit though. from what I hear everything is slowly graduating to 64 and if its not 64 than 32 will work.

What about general linux forum?

This is the best I know. If you will use Fedora, stay here. If not, I think you will find one to fit with your distribution.

If you want some advice, check for www.tldp.org if i remember correctly.

Enjoy Linux
