We are busy migrating to a new motherboard, that requires an update to the network controller (Intel). As all our builds are done across the network (PXE), I need to update the initrd.img file with the newer module.
The problem I have is how do you go about this correctly.

What I have tried is unpacking the initrd img, updating the modules.cgz file, the pci.ids and a lot of other files. Repacked the file, and not one driver will load.

What am I doing wrong. This area is not my strong point, but I need to find a solution yesterday.

See if this article will help : Preparing an initrd Image from Scratch (http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:snUwGn0mZ70J:www.linux-mag.com/id/3303/+preparing+the+initrd+image&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=ca)

This is pretty much what I have done. I am trying to add the latest Intel PRO1000 driver version 7.5.5.
This gives support for 82566DM chip.
