View Full Version : pyBackPack backup tool on FC7?

I tried yum install pybackpack (http://andrewprice.me.uk/projects/pybackpack/) and I tried making a backup of /home to a CIFS mounted NAS, but it didn't do anything more than make some directories. Has anyone gotten this backup tool, or something similar (for example the Ubuntu hubackup linked at the bottom of the above site), working with FC7?

... I know I should have a cron job, but I still haven't decided exactly what to backup daily, weekly, monthly, etc.. I'm still learning scripting, so I want something quick, just for now. Thanks

?? No-one knows? ..something that could/should work like:

hubackup (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HomeUserBackup) for Ubuntu
system-config-backup (http://www.pembo13.com/linux/soc/) for .. GNOME(?)

I've tried both pybackpack and system-config-backup, both seem to do as you mention. (s-c-b is still under development, it's copying code isn't finished yet).

If you're looking for something similar, try:

yum install fwbackups

Thanks! Amazing. Looks absolutely perfect--simplifies my scripting woes. I wish Google had shown me this.. If this post helps publicize fwbackups I'd be happy.

Actually it took me a while to realize a few key points, IF I understand them right:
can effectively schedule tar, rsync, or tar -cz jobs
option for one-shot, "backup now"
manage backup job's nice level

A few remaining questions
seems to be: can connect to any resource reachable by a gnome-vfs style URL. Does that include burn:/// to write CD or DVD?
Mentioned that a beta version's restore tab didn't work. Does restore work properly since FC7? v1.43.1 release 2.fc7

... now I just need to decide on the best backup policy.. I think that needs a separate post..
