View Full Version : Need xorg.conf for Samsung 204b monitor

15th August 2007, 06:32 AM
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 204b monitor and a GeForce 7600 graphics card. I have also installed the nv driver and the maximum resolution I'm able to get is 1360 x 768. My xorg.conf has the resolution combinations in the modes line however I believe I need the vertical and horizontal rates.

Thanks to all who reply

This interesting post says that you can deduce the right settings for the monitor section of xorg.conf by reading your Xorg.0.log file.
I don't have have a monitor like yours, so I can't swear that this works.

I checked out the log file and it only shows horizontal and vertical rates for resolutions I already have. I wanted to add resolutions I'm not able to get now. Any suggestions?

I made the changes to my xorg.conf file. After logging out and back in Display Settings shows my monitor resolution is at 800x600. When I click on the resolution drop down list it shows one other combination, 640x480. How can I set the resolution higher?

If you have the modes set in your xorg.conf file
Modes "1360x768_60.00"
which calls for 1360x76 @ refresh rate of 60
then add the following option to your Section "Device"

Option "UseEDIDFreqs" "false"

then restart X or reboot and see how it goes.
If it does not work, then boot to runlevel 3 and start X with
startx -- -logverbose 6
then have a look at your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and there should be enough details regarding which modes were accepted or rejected and why.

I got it!!! :D

I tried Seve's first suggestion with no change and as for the runlevel, I didn't know how to boot up in a different runlevel so I tried this:

I had to add,

horizsync 31-81
vertrefresh 50-75

Thanks guys
