Sorry I dont have much time for research as i dont have unlimited access to this computer. I have a Compaq Presario V5101us and it has an AMD processor. How can i tell the architecture type/ cna someone who is SURE tell me? Thanks for a timely response.....

Here's the link. Took about one minute:
Google on "Compaq Presario". Takes you to HP. Then search on model. Get product specs.

I appreciate the help, but I do not see where it says the architecture. How can I find that out from what ia m given

When you say arch do you mean 32 vrs 64 bit or are you talking about AMD vrs Intel? What is the context of the question? Are you trying to find out what kernel you are running?
uname -a
will tell you what your kernel is. If your kernel is an SMP kernel then your running SMP (multi-processor) You may see this fairly often even if you have a single processor.

That is a sample output of uname -a

Archetechture could mean many things, without the context it's hard to know what you mean by it.
