View Full Version : Remote desktop solution

Hi, I just migrated from windows xp to Fedora.
So far so good except for one small thing.

I used to remote desktop from my ibook ( osx) to my win box so that I could browse the web and start bittorrent downloads.

At first, I tried using VNC which is way too slow for my needs, so then I tried NX.
NX's speed is acceptable but I couldn't see programs started on other sessions.

After some reading, I found out that taking the control of the "main" session is done via the "shadow" option. But this option makes everything painfully too slow ( I guess displaying everything on 2 displays simultaneously does that).

I also tried all sort of remote plugins for azureus but none of them fits my taste.

So here is my wish, if anyone knows how to do it:

I'd like to be able to log with NX on a normal session ( not shadow) then somehow make Azureus switch from the desktop to my display.
( I guess something like that could be possible with some xorg tweaks?)

If you drop the resolution and color depth of the transmitted desktop you will see a huge speed increase. This should apply to whatever remote option you run. The transmitted desktop resolution and color depth does not have to match the desktop of your local machine or your remote machine.
