View Full Version : New ATI drivers Problem "out of range"

29th July 2007, 11:09 PM
I was working with the downgraded version of xorg-x11-server, and it was fine, I had at least native resolution on my monitor 1440x900, no 3D acceleration but that is fine for now.

I did a yum update yesterday and after reboot I got a "out of range" message on my monitor, did a little research and found out that there was a new driver that didn't need the old xorg, so I removed xorg from the yum exclude list and installed most recent drivers, but no luck, then reinstalled the ones from AMD following some post directions and nothing, then I tried with the freshrpms drivers following this post http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=155503&page=1&pp=10 still no luck, I don't care if I get 3D right know but I need to run at my native res of 1440x900.

my video card is X1650PRO

Basically I want to go back to my previous configuration, can anyone give pointers on where to get old xorg-x11-server and old fglrx drivers? and how to install them.

thanks a lot guys

try this ( make sure you remove all previous fglrx drivers )

yum install yum-protectbase kernel-devel
su -c 'perl -i -pe "s/(\[.*\])/\1\nprotect=yes/" /etc/yum.repos.d/{fedora*,livna*}'
wget http://ftp.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/7/freshrpms-release/freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm
rpm -ivh freshrpms-release-1.1-1.fc.noarch.rpm
wget http://ftp.cica.es/fedora/linux/core/test/6.91/Prime/i386/os/Fedora/xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.2.0-6.fc7.i386.rpm
rpm -U --oldpackage xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.2.0-6.fc7.i386.rpm
wget ftp://ftp.uk3.freshrpms.net/pub/freshrpms/fedora/linux/testing/7/ati-x11-drv-8.38.6-1.fc7/ati-x11-drv-8.38.6-1.fc7.i386.rpm
yum remove kmod-fglrx xorg-x11-drv-fglrx livna-config-display
rpm -U ati-x11-drv-8.38.6-1.fc7.i386.rpm

add this line to /etc/yum.conf

exclude=xorg-x11-server-Xorg ati-x11-drv

leigh123@linux, I can't thank you enough, your advice worked beautifully, I though I would have to spend at least a couple of days, figuring this out.
