HI guys

I used to have a program called sqldeveloper on my old windows machine as well as on my SUSE machine.

After migrating to Fedora 6 thoug, I cannot use this program.

I downloaded and installed the relevant RPM but getting the following error when trying to run this:

# sqldeveloper

Oracle SQL Developer

WARNING: error instantiating 'java.util.logging.FileHandler,' referenced by handlers, class not found

Exception during runtime initialization

Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException

Does someone know how to fix this or what I need to get it to run?

this is rather an urgent issue as I require this or a similar package for my daily tasks.

Have you installed the jre from sun or are you using the java environment that came standard with the distribution. It might be worth installing the jre from sun's website if you haven't already.

HI, I have installed the JRE from Sun's website...

the only thing I can think of is that the JRE has not been started or not running.

Where can I check this or start it up?

try entering "su -" then enter "alternatives --config java" and make sure that the sun java is being used.

try /sbin/alternatives instead of alternatives...lots of those admin type commands are in the /sbin/ folder..good luck!
