Hello,

Fedora core 6
x86/32

The system boots strait to a command line login prompt and not to the X gdm login screen.

A ps shows that Xorg :0 is running. If I kill it, the login window will appear.

I want the system to boot strait to the graphical login screen.

Please advise.

Thanks

It might be the same problem as the one discussed and solved in http://forums.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=152800.

The link you provided appears to be exactly what I am facing.

I applied software patches/updates and that screwed everything up. Now the X server will not even start at all.
The updates changed my video driver, removed my xorg.conf, etc.

I am now re-installing from scratch.
After that is complete I will apply the updates then configure my video driver.
At that point I will see if this is still an issue.

Thanks

But this puzzels me: for the specific problem you mentioned in the original post, I only needed to download and install the [rather small] RPM from http://lwn.net/Articles/207827/ . That one does not touch X/ etc.
