Tonight I had an update that seemed to be of the ATI drivers... anyone know if this is the update we've been waiting for?

I am in the same case with you. After the successful system update of xorg-x11-drv-ati -6.6.3-4.fc7.i386'. I could not find the driver installed. Who can tell us what is going on?

xorg-x11-drv-ati -6.6.3-4.fc7.i386 is the open source 2D driver for old ati cards ( i.e RAGE )

If you want a proper driver in F7 install fglrx ( you need to downgrade xorg from 7.2 to 7.1 for this to work )

If you dont like this idea try the 3D "radeon" driver ( if your card is supported by it ) or "vesa"

The driver you want for ati is called:

kmod-fglrx

And another package. THIS WILL NOT COME AUTOMATICALLY WITH THE UPDATE. As it's not installed. So try:

yum install kmod-fglrx

Every once in a while.

Yes I have had issues with the Kmod-fglrx driver however it does not support my max resolution for my monitor so I was able to use the standard radeon driver

Are you really sure about that? Once resolutions are not supported, the official driver always gives a good alternative....
