VLC Media player gave me no problems with FC6, but with F7 after I installed it the first time and ran it it ran... but ever since then I tried opening it with nothing coming out... anyone else have this problem? thanks!

Try opening it from the terminal, so that you can see error messages - if any.
Where did you get vlc from? Livna, Freshrpms....

I have no problem with VLC on F7, I installed VLC from Livna repo.

As I can see, the problem with vlc is because of different versions of some libraries in freshrpms and livna. For example, libdca:
libdca.i386 0.0.2-3.lvn7 livna
libdca.i386 0.0.2-4.fc7 freshrpms

The same with x264, etc. So, when you do yum update your packages from livna get updated to the newer ones from freshrpms and vlc get stuffed up.

Now is it just a temporary conflict or is it gonna be the same in the future. I think I had both freshrpms and livna enabled in FC6 and had no problems (Sure I did with atrpms).
