FC6_64 - I did a yum update late last week and since then my Samba server has stopped working - every time i restart the daemons I get (in the kernel log):
May 28 12:11:43 ra kernel: audit(1180318303.887:9): avc: denied { read write } for pid=7606 comm="smbd" name=".messages.swp" dev=sda6 ino=820774 scontext=user_u:system_r:smbd_t:s0 tcontext=user_u:object_r:var_log_t:s0 tclass=file
May 28 12:11:43 ra kernel: audit(1180318303.975:10): avc: denied { read write } for pid=7632 comm="nmbd" name=".messages.swp" dev=sda6 ino=820774 scontext=user_u:system_r:nmbd_t:s0 tcontext=user_u:object_r:var_log_t:s0 tclass=file

TIA

Eric

That is a red herring caused by calling the daemon restart from within vi on the kernel log - the samba logs show nothing amiss:
[2007/05/28 13:09:23, 0] smbd/server.c:main(847)
smbd version 3.0.24-5.fc6 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2006
processes are running OK but Windows machines say "The network path ... could not be found"

ed: After resetting smbpasswd & fixing lmhosts - looked like it was zapped even though there was a lmhosts.rpmnew next to it??? am getting kernel logs:
May 28 14:04:56 ra smbd[8627]: [2007/05/28 14:04:56, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_peer_addr(1229)

May 28 14:04:56 ra smbd[8706]: [2007/05/28 14:04:56, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_peer_addr(1229)
May 28 14:04:56 ra smbd[8706]: getpeername failed. Error was Transport endpoint is not connected
May 28 14:04:56 ra smbd[8706]: [2007/05/28 14:04:56, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(534)
May 28 14:04:56 ra smbd[8706]: read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 0.0.0.0. Error = Connection reset by peer

plus the matching entries to each of the above in the respective samba logs - why 0.0.0.0 ??

ed: rolled back to version 3.0.23c-2 and all is well again. Where does one report that the current RPM update for FC6 x86_64 is busted?
