I have install the mutt, but I can't fine the .muttrc file in the root dir. that's why? and where is it can be?

try

su -
updatedb
locate muttrc

still can't find the .muttrc. should I create one?

It looks like there is a sample

/usr/local/doc/mutt/samples/sample.muttrc

you could try creating one

Pardon my ignorance but why should you care where it is in your root directory? Surely it should be in your user home directory? Or am I missing something?

Actually, I only have the root home directory.

find / -name *muttrc* file

Are you saying you are running as root and have not set-up a user account? That is very bad! Very bad! You're leaving yourself wide open for attack.

I will not help anyone who runs as root and I hope others do the same.
