There are plain wallpapers, flowered wallpapers, and sculptured wallpapers,

What I am looking for is a wallpaper (desktop background) that at logon, occupies a quarter to the full screen, showing the current month (in English), I am looking for a static picture of the current month. It does not have to be relocatable on the desktop.
Do not let the current calendar be other than static. I want actually to use it as a quick reminder of the calendar, with no scrolling. It takes the current date and uses that.

It only needs a refresh on a new login, or on being chosen as the background image.

You could use gDesklets (for Gnome)

If you are a fc7 beta tester, then gnome desktop is a very clean and beautiful background.
In place of the Ballon, I was thinking of a calendar about the size of that ballon, in darker blue and lighter blew, with fairly large numbers. It should appear as if it was part of the background, instead of being overlaid onto it.

On my 21 inch monitor, I could visualize it as a 3 by 3 inch square, with a typical calendar page being displayed.
Remember, it is not clickable, and shows the current month as of the logon time, or when the month changes, it would change too, at midnight.
