I get this error :
lm -lpthread -lgpac_static -lvfw32 -s
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lvfw32
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [libx264.so.55] Error 1

my configure options are:
./configure --prefix=/usr/ --enable-shared --enable-gtk --enable-avis-input --enable-mp4-output

x264 builds fine with every thing up until I --enable-avis-input

I have searched the net but no luck can any one tell me how to fix this?

Not sure, but you could always use Yum to install and avoid the hassle, unless of course there is something about the rpm that won't work for you.

I could not get the rpm to accept avi input in the gui (of course if the gui is not supposed to I look like the bewb I mean newb that I am:)

I'm sorry I'm not really sure what you are trying to do, and to be honest I'm not very familiar with x264. I only know that I like to have it available just in case another program needs to make use of it.

There are a few front ends for it and some like Avidemux are available through yum.

You can read all about it here :
